STEALTH Pool FAQ's

What is a semi-inground pool?

A semi-inground pool is a swimming pool that can be installed partially in the ground and partially above ground—a hybrid between an above-ground pool and a fully inground pool. Because it has reinforced walls, it can also be installed fully in the ground, or completely above the ground.

Key Characteristics

1. Partial Burial

  • Typically installed 1–3 feet (or more) into the ground.

  • The remaining wall height stays visible above grade.

2. Stronger Structure

  • Built with reinforced walls.

  • Designed to handle soil pressure, unlike standard above-ground pools.

3. Flexible Installation

  • Can be placed on sloped or uneven yards more easily.

  • Great where full excavation is difficult or costly.

4. Deck Integration

  • Often surrounded by partial or full decking for an inground look.

  • Can be landscaped with stone, pavers, or retaining walls.

What the advantages and disadvantages of a semi-inground pool?

Semi-inground pools (our Stealth and Stealth Plus Series) serve as a hybrid, offering a middle ground between the affordability of above-ground models and the permanence of in-ground designs.

Advantages

  • Ideal for Uneven Terrain: They are specifically designed for sloped or rocky yards where a full excavation would be too difficult or expensive.

  • Cost-Effective: Starting as low as $20,000, they are significantly cheaper than full in-ground pools.

  • Built-in Look: They integrate seamlessly with custom decking, stone facades, or landscaping to create a polished, high-end appearance.

  • Durability: Made from reinforced materials like steel or resin, they often last 20 years or more, which is longer than standard above-ground pools.

  • Great for Entertaining and Games: The Stealth and Stealth Plus Series semi inground pool is a consistent 52” deep throughout, which means that everyone has the same depth no matter where they are in the pool.

  • Enhanced Safety: Similar to above-ground pools, the exposed portion of the wall acts as a natural barrier for children and pets.

Disadvantages

  • Higher Upfront Cost than Above-Ground: They require professional excavation and specialized installation, making them more expensive than basic above-ground models.

  • Limited Customization: They generally lack the complex custom shapes and deep-end depths found in full in-ground pools (the Stealth Series is 52” deep all the way across).

  • Permanent Structure: Unlike most above-ground pools, they cannot be easily disassembled or relocated once installed.

  • Temperature Variations: Because they are not fully surrounded by earth for insulation, water temperatures may fluctuate more than in-ground pools.

  • Long-Term Expenses: Semi inground pools require periodic repairs, such as replacing vinyl liners every 10–15 years ($4,000+).

  • Permitting Challenges: You may still need to navigate complex local building codes and HOA regulations that apply to permanent structures.

How much do semi-inground pools cost?

  • Semi-ingrounds start at $20,000. Total costs can be anywhere from $25,000 to $45,000

What costs are not included in the listed price?

All of our inground pool prices include the pool and installation. The only things that are not included are:

  • Electrical from your house (circuit panel) to the pool, including wiring, hardware, and connections to the pump. The cost varies depending on the distance.

  • Permits. We fill out the paperwork, but you pay the municipality directly. Most municipalities require just basic permits, but some require certified engineered drawings, which cost extra.

  • Water. Filling you pool from a garden hose takes a long time, so we have clean water delivered for your initial pool fill.

  • Accessories. We have a long list of accessories to personalize your new pool experience.

What are the warranties on your pools?

Our warranties vary depending on the pool type, but in general our warranties are some of the best in the business. Stop in to our store, or call and talk to one of our associates for more details.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, we are licensed and insured. We are licensed both locally and with the state of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We can provide proof of licensing and insurance upon request.

Do you do an onsite survey before I purchase my semi inground pool?

Absolutely! When you are ready, we can schedule a time that is convenient for you. We come out to your property, help you determine the pool’s location, plan for any issues that may arise, and answer any questions that you might have. After the onsite visit, we will then follow up with a precise quote for your project.

I’ve decided to buy a semi inground pool. What is the pool purchase and installation process?

Purchasing a semi inground pool is a major investment, so we want to make sure that it is done right.

  1. Meet with one of our experienced associates to determine what type of pool you would like, and what accessories you want to go with it.

  2. We work up an initial quote to give you a rough estimate.

  3. We schedule an onsite survey to determine the pool’s location, plan for any issues that may arise, and answer any additional questions that you might have.

  4. We create a precise quote for you to review, which includes all the details and costs.

  5. Once you approve the quote, we then create a contract. When you are ready to proceed, we require a 5% deposit so we can order the equipment. The deposit is the only up-front payment that you will make. All the rest of the payments are made after the work is completed.

  6. We start the permit and scheduling process. We do all the paperwork, but you pay the municipality directly. Most municipalities require just basic permits, but some require certified engineered drawings, which cost extra. This includes identifying any underground utility lines.

  7. Once permits are issued, our excavator clears the site and excavates the soil to the exact dimensions of your design. This phase usually takes a few days and includes setting a gravel or sand base for leveling.

  8. Structural installation - Wall panels are assembled and secured with braces.

  9. Plumbing and electrical - We install the circulation pipes, skimmers, and returns, alongside the electrical wiring for pumps, (optional) lights, and (optional) heaters. These systems are typically connected to an equipment pad near the pool.

  10. Backfilling and decking - Soil or gravel is filled back in around the pool structure to secure it. Following this, the pool deck (concrete, pavers, stone or decking) and coping (the pool's edge trim) are installed.

  11. Finishing and filling - The final interior surface - such as the vinyl liner, plaster, or pebble finish - is applied. The pool is then filled with water, the chemicals are balanced, and a final safety inspection is conducted by local authorities.

  12. When the pool is ready to go, we schedule an indoctrination session with you; where our experienced associate goes over all the information regarding usage, maintenance, pool chemicals, and any other questions that you might have.

  13. Put on your bathing suit and jump in!

Can I add a saltwater system to my pool?

Yes. Saltwater systems are a very popular and economical upgrade. Adding a salt system (Salt Water Chlorine Generator) converts your pool from traditional chemical dosing to an automated system that generates chlorine on-site through electrolysis. The result is softer water, and reduced pool maintenance.

Advantages

  • Superior Water Feel: Swimmers often describe the water as "silky" or "soft" due to the mild salinity (about 1/10th of the ocean), which is gentler on eyes, skin, and hair.

  • Low Ongoing Maintenance: The system automatically maintains chlorine levels, eliminating the need to manually add tablets or liquid chlorine weekly.

  • Long-Term Cost Savings: While salt cells are a large upfront investment, the annual cost of pool-grade salt (roughly $15 per 40lb bag) is significantly lower than commercial chlorine.

  • Reduced Chemical Handling: You no longer need to store, transport, or handle large quantities of concentrated, hazardous chlorine.

  • Consistent Sanitization: Continuous chlorine production prevents the "peaks and valleys" of manual dosing, leading to more stable water quality and fewer algae blooms.

Disadvantages

  • High Initial Cost: A professional salt system installation typically ranges from $2,200 to $2,500.

  • Corrosion Risk: Salt is naturally corrosive and can damage metal ladders, light fixtures, heaters, and certain types of stone decking if not properly managed or sealed.

  • Recurring Part Replacement: The "salt cell"—the heart of the system—has a finite lifespan and typically costs $700 to $1,000 to replace every 5 to 7 years.
